Rose:
"It's shocking to me how beautiful Germany is. Even a large city like Halle is clean and green. Besides the overwhelming amount of smokers, the Germans are SO healthy.
"They're also very, very friendly. They're always polite, and say please and thank you. I love how tasty their food is, and Oh. My. God! Eis [Editor's Note: ice cream, but with less emphasis on the cream than the American confection] is so good here!
"... there are also some cute boys :-)"

Impressions of Germany
Today's entry is the first of a series of impressions that the Foothill GAPP students have shared with me.
Caroline:
"Germany seems to me more concerned with energy usage & their effect on the environment. People tend to have smaller cars, and therefore, less fuel is used. Also Germans are very aware of electricity consumption, and they ofter turn lights off or dim them whenever possible; some escalators even stop when no one is on them. In addition, Germans better conserve water, taking shorter showers and turning off the faucet while brushing their teeth (or so I have observed).

Waiting in München
After saying our goodbyes at SFO yesterday evening, we enjoyed an uneventful flight to Munich. We have a few hours' layover here, so I thought it a good time to start the travel blog.
It was easy to distract ourselves on the plane, since each seat had its own video screen and there was a huge selection of movies, TV, news, and sports shows, as well as music stations to listen to. I watched a really good movie about a Turkish guest worker family in Germany called Almanya. The food was pretty decent on the flight, too, so no complaints! The students played cards, listened to music, read, and most of us managed to get some sleep too.
The students are getting their blood moving by walking around the airport and exploring. Then at 9:15pm (12:15p PDT) we will board a flight for the final leg of our trip, Munich - Leipzig/Halle. Our host families will meet us at the airport and take us to their homes! I expect we'll all sleep well tonight!

CANCELLED: Meeting on Monday, January 3 @ 7pm in Room B-33
Hello Everyone,
I have been fighting off a virus for the past three weeks, and it reared its ugly head New Year's Eve! Guess who wasn't partying like it was 1999?
Anyway, I am still running a fever and will not be at work tomorrow as a result. I will keep you posted as to whether the meeting will be rescheduled or if I will just discuss the information over the Google Group.
In the meantime, be SURE to join fhsgapp2011@googlegroups.com!
Liebe Grüße,
Frau Fleming
